Girl Power Manual
Each
participant of the girl power symposium recieved a Girl Power
Manual loaded with information and ideas to successfully run a girl
power camp. The cool thing about this manual is that all the
information is available online.
Below is a short description of each section of the manual and a
link to the actual information that is contained in the manual.
Feel free to use this information to create activities and camps
for the girls in your community!
The bulk of the information contained in the manual has been
taken from the community education kit provided by the Girl Power
National Public Education Campaign in the United States. The
community education kit highlights messages and materials to help
individuals and groups develop skill building programs for girls
aged 9-14 years old. ***Please note that some sections may not be
available yet, as they are still being put onto the website. Sorry

Section 1
Welcome to Girl Power
This is an overview of the Girl Power programs currently in
place. There is information on the challenges and needs that young
girls face, and it also gives ideas on how to encourage girl power
movement among ladies of all ages.

This section determines how Girl Power can be developed to
nurture and support girls. This includes templates for assesments

Girl Power! How to get it!
This is an activitiy guide for 9-11 year olds. The topics
covered include positive self-image, physical fitness, and good
nutrition integrated with fun exercises to help girls build skills
and realize their full potential.

Aboriginal Women
Information on women's issues from an Aboriginal perspective.
This site also gives a brief background on Aboriginal women in

Aboriginal Women and Violence
Lecture notes from a Queens University introduction to Women's
Studies Course. The lecture focuses on violence in Aboriginal
communities and the issues that contribute to the violence, and the
issues that are created from violence. The lecture includes graphic
accounts of violence on a Dene reserve in Manitoba.
